Henry Coe State Park

87,000 acre state park with 120 miles of bike legal singletrack. Pretty unbelievable that this is about 20 minutes outside of Morgan Hill as it feels very remote. Once you get outside of the parking lot area, I can spend an entire day here without seeing a single person.

Singletrack varies from pretty well established to ones that are overgrown enough to be pretty hard to follow, with everything connected with old ranching roads.

I’ve been here several times but have only explored a small fraction of the southwestern part of the park. Much of the park is remote enough that to get to you would have to camp overnight as it’s just not possible to get to and back out in a single day.

I sometimes ride my traditional bike here but more often ride my eMTB. Henry Coe is extremely steep and the eMTB lets me explore more parts of the park that I just physically could ride as well as go further into the park that I would able to do on my own.

Wildflowers in April and May are really cool. It gets crazy hot in the summer and is extremely exposed so it’s more fun in the fall and spring.
